Dr. Reddy’s Dollar

Fill the day with enthusiasm. Give the day all you’ve got and it will give you all it’s got, which will be plenty.”

Norman Vincent Peale

My friend, Kota Reddy M.D., is an internationally-renowned, nutritionally-based cardiologist in Houston, Texas. He is full of enthusiasm, brilliance, and is always a pleasure to talk to. We are both writers, and we were on the phone one day, just shooting the breeze.

I mentioned to him that I was worried about a financial transaction I had been working on that I really wanted to go through. He said, “If that dollar is yours, there’s nothing anyone can do to take it away from you, and if it isn’t, there’s nothing you can do to get it. So give it your best and be unattached to the outcome.”

Wow! I thought of how many times I had fretted over something in my life or tried to make it happen, rather than just allowing it to happen. Kota’s point of view lightened my load immediately, and I have used it ever since to focus on what I can do, give it my best, and leave the rest to God.

I’m sure you’ve had opportunities that have fallen into your lap, and others that you worked hard for but didn’t ultimately get. I have too, and with the wrong mindset, the failures can really drain us. Kota’s mindset changed that for me; I know great things are coming my way, and I will get the ones that are right for me. So will you.

I have no recollection of what the opportunity was that I was so worried about that day. I still don’t remember whether I got it or not, but I will never forget the wisdom I received from a friend.
