How to Get Rid of Stuff
“Out of clutter, find simplicity. From discord, find harmony.
In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity.”
Albert Einstein
Well, it’s a whole new year. And maybe you’re like me, and you love getting rid of stuff that is no longer useful. Or maybe you are like some of my friends and family, and you don’t.
Either way, you may find this technique for lightening your load helpful. If you want to get rid of a few things but find yourself reluctant to do so, ask yourself these four questions about the item in question:
• Does this add meaning to my life?
• Have I used or worn this in the last year?
• Does this have sentimental value to me or my family?
• Could someone else benefit from having this item?
If your answer is no to most of these questions, get rid of it. You will no longer have to clean it, store it, look at it, dust it or arrange it. Real estate experts will tell you the number one way of increasing the value of your home is to clear the clutter.
And if you give it to charity, you can get a nice tax deduction for it. Now, what could be nicer than that? It’s a win win.
