Relax

“The ideal of calm exists in a sitting cat.”

Jules Renard

This is a picture of Roady, our beloved European Burmese, doing what he did best. Roady came to us, along with Tika, who is featured in my post “Trust.” We rescued them through my sister, Mary Ellen, and her friend Sue. And we are so grateful, as Roady was easily the most popular animal of four in our house, with five of us casting votes.

When I showed this photo to Sue, she burst into laughter and said somewhat enviously, “This is what I try to achieve by meditating, service, and love thy neighbor, and he’s doing it just by lying down!”

Roady’s taught us a lot about what should be relatively simple: just relaxing.

Why is that such a challenge in this modern world, full of wonders designed to make our work easier and increase our leisure time? I think it’s because that which allows us to get more done in a shorter period has resulted in our doing three times as much in the same amount of time. And that is wearing us out.

So, take a tip from Roady, just relax, do a little more nothing every day. That will make you, and everyone around you, a little more relaxed.
