The Secret Service

“Safety doesn’t happen by accident.”

Anonymous

Years ago, I went on a father-daughter ski trip with my twin daughters’ scout troop. We gathered at the home of one of the dads to caravan up to Mammoth. It took a while for everyone to arrive and decide who was riding with whom.

As we were waiting, one of the moms was a little nervous that her daughter was going off without her for the first time. The mom quietly came up to me and asked if I would keep an eye out for her. She may have thought her husband wouldn’t watch as closely as she would. I said sure, happy to, and off we went.

We had a great time skiing Mammoth and hanging out with the dads and daughters. On the last night, we had a pizza party in the condo. One of the other dads mentioned that he had been asked to keep an eye out for the same daughter.

It didn’t take long for us to realize that all of us had been asked individually to watch out for the same girl. We got a kick out of that, especially the father of the girl being looked after so diligently.

Now that’s security!
